MEMORANDUM OF ASSOCIATION

Name of the Society

The name of the Society shall be: DLF City Durga Puja and Bengali Cultural Society, Gurgaon, Haryana

Registered Office

The registered office of the Society shall be at E-11/11, DLF City I, Gurgaon 122 002, Haryana.

Background

A number of residents, initially from DLF Qutab Enclave, Gurgaon, Haryana started celebrating Durga Puja at the E-Block Park in 1992 with cultural programmes on all the days. Even though, Durga Puja is Bengalee in nature, the organisers have successfully integrated the multi-cultural society of the DLF neighbourhood in this celebrations over the years since 1992, and made it an annual event for the Society that now expands beyond DLF Qutab Enclave (recently renamed as DLF City) and encompasses residents of the town ship consisting of DLF City, Sushant Lok, South City, Garden Estate and the Laburnum Condominium complex.

Having conducted the above functions for over 9 years, it is now strongly felt that the society should register itself with the Registrar of Societies in Haryana and enhance its scope of operation with the objectives outlined below:

Primary Objectives of the Society

Best articulated in the line used by the organisers for last 9 years Tradition brings us together, the primary objectives of the Society shall be:

• To uphold the Culture and traditions of the members of the Society, inter alia, through holding of Durga Puja etc., an Annual Day on the Bengali New Year, observance of Tagores Birthday, etc. every year during the autumn season as per calendar; each time covering pujas, community bhog, cultural functions depicting Indian cultural heritage and emerging cultural trends.

• To organize and develop social, cultural and relief (in cases of natural calamities) activities for the members of the Society and in its neighbouring areas.

• To coordinate and cooperate with other Bengali Associations or Societies of Gurgaon and New Delhi for overall social and cultural development of the evolving township identified in the following

1. DLF City,

2. Sushant Lok

3. South City

4. Garden Estate

5. The Laburnum Condominium complex

6. Heritage City

and adjoining residential areas of the above.

Nature and Characteristics of the Society

The Society would be a non-profit organisation and all office bearers serve the Society and /or specific committee in honorary capacity.

Objectives incidental and ancillary to the attainment of the Primary Objectives specified above.

• To collect annual subscription and event specific subscriptions from its members.

• To acquire, purchase, lease, exchange or otherwise movable and /or immovable properties and any rights or privileges which the Society may deem necessary or convenient for the purpose of fulfilling its objectives.

• To enter into any arrangements, union of interest, reciprocal concession or cooperation with persons, companies or Societies carrying on or engaged in similar activities that this Society wishes to do as part of its PrimaryObjectives.

• To appoint an Executive Committee to ensure planned and smooth operations of the Society and elect three office bearers of the Society to carry the leadership & operational responsibilities on behalf of the Society. The Office bearers shall be:

1. President of the Society

2. General Secretary of the Society, and

3. Treasurer of the Society.

All the above office bearers will hold honorary positions and shall not be entitled to direct or indirect remunerations of any nature.

• To appoint ad hoc committees to fulfill the specific objectives of the Society; e.g. Durga Puja Committee, Cultural Committee etc.

• To amend and enhance rules and regulations governing the operation of the Society, as necessary under theprovisions and guidelines in para 6.4 e) of the Rules and Regulations of the Society which should construe an integral part of this Memorandum of Association.
